MEETINGS
General meetings are usually two hours long. Guest speakers are often part of the first hour, providing information on a variety of topics. Group news is shared by the executive committee.
During the second hour of the meeting, stroke survivors and caregivers separate into two groups. Each group gathers in different rooms to share their thoughts and provide support. |
HIGHLIGHTS OF PAST MEETINGS
FEBRUARY MEETING: NIAGARA PREHAB AND WELLNESS
At our February general meeting, we welcomed Adam Burtnik from Niagara Prehab and Wellness in St. Catharines. He talked to us about the benefits of physical activity as well as fall prevention. Adam took us through a few basic exercises that could help improve our well-being. Please visit www.prehabwellness.ca for more information.
AUGUST MEETING: ST. JOHN AMBULANCE'S THERAPY DOGS
At our August general meeting, we had the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dogs join us. SOS Niagara would like to thank Denis Dallaire and all the four-legged guests and their handlers for providing joy and comfort to everyone in attendance.
The program originally began in June of 1992 in Peterborough, Ontario. The St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program brings the benefits of pet companionship to both children and adults that are hospitalized, adults residing in long term care facilities, children struggling with reading, adult and child victims of trauma and crime, students stressed from school challenges and individuals in homeless shelters.
